Effexor XR - it aint over yet...

I have been tracking the Effexor XR [R] Venlafaxine story for quite some time...

First Teva sued Wyeth which settled before the litigation was over, with Teva relinquishing the XR sale opportunity and getting immediate sale rights for normal Effexor.

Then Osmotica was sued...

Now, Wyeth has sued Lupin and Sandoz for 3 patents pursuant to both these companies filing Abbreviated New Drug Applications for the XR product.

The saga continues....

Teva is expected to launch Effexor XR caps by Jul 2010.

Also FDA approved a citizen petition and allowed the applicant to file ANDA for venlafaxine HCl in ER tablet dosage form (37.5, 75 & 150 mg)as against the capsule dosage for by innovator-Wyeth.

FDA also approved paediatric waiver for this change in the dosage form to the applicant.
